The length of a business loan process is set by the funding partner, not by Ridgehollow Finance, and it depends on what the request is for and how complete the file is. What an owner controls is the order of the steps and having each document ready when it is asked for.
The process runs from a first call, through the purpose and amount, the documents and the partner's review, to an offer the owner can accept or decline. The partner runs its review its own way; a complete file with a clear purpose leaves fewer questions to answer.
Getting a Small Business Loan Starts With What the Money Buys
The first step is the purpose. A request to buy a named machine, restock a store or cover payroll on open invoices gives a partner something to review; a request for "some capital" does not. From there the steps run in order:
- A call with the office about what the money is for and roughly how much it is.
- The documents that fit that purpose, gathered by the owner.
- The request sent on to a funding partner whose products fit it.
- The partner's own review, which can include questions back to the owner and a credit check of its own.
- An offer with terms, or a decision not to make one.
- The owner's decision to accept, compare or decline, then the partner's closing documents.
Ridgehollow Finance does not run the review or control it. Each partner has its own process, and the same request can move differently with two partners. What the owner can shape is steps one and two: a clear purpose and a full set of papers.
An offer is not the end of the process for the owner. It names the amount, the payment and the total cost, and the owner can set it against another offer, ask the partner to explain a term, or decline it. Nothing is signed until the owner accepts and the partner sends its closing documents.
What a Partner Reviews While Operator Invoices Are Still Open
Service companies that bill operators carry open invoices as a matter of course. A partner looking at that business can read the receivables as closely as the bank balance, because the open invoices are where the next deposits come from.
- A receivables aging report that lists each operator invoice and its terms.
- The master service agreements, so the payment terms can be checked against the invoices.
- Recent bank statements, where operator payments show up as deposits.
- Any equipment payments or credit lines already in place.
Sweetwater County, WY had 47 establishments with paid staff in Support Activities for Oil and Gas Operations (NAICS 213112) in County Business Patterns for 2023. The oilfield services page sets out the equipment and payroll costs those companies fund and how a partner can look at them.
What a Partner Can Ask For Again: Missing Statements and an Unclear Purpose
Questions from a partner can come from gaps like these, and each one can be closed before the request goes out:
- A month of bank statements left out of the set.
- Revenue on the statements that does not match the range given on the call.
- A purpose that is not tied to a quote, an order or an invoice.
- An existing advance or loan payment that was not mentioned.
- Ownership details that differ between documents.
A retail shop is a clear case. A restock request backed by the supplier's order and the shop's recent sales is something a partner can review as it stands; a request for "inventory money" with no order behind it leads to more questions. In the 2023 County Business Patterns, the retail trade sector shows 153 employer establishments for Sweetwater County, WY, and 41.2% fall in the under-five-employee size classes. Restock orders, display cases and shelving are worked through on the retail page.
Equipment Requests Versus Working Capital Requests: Different Paperwork
The paperwork follows the product. An equipment request centers on the machine; a working capital request centers on the account the money will flow through.
| Request | Built around | Documents a partner can ask for |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment financing | The machine and its quote | Dealer quote with model and serial numbers, proof of insurance on the item |
| Working capital | Cash moving through the account | Bank statements, receivables or payables lists, the use of the money |
| Term loan | A set amount for a set purpose | Business financial statements, tax returns, a description of the purpose |
A request that mixes the two, such as a new oven plus the payroll to staff a longer menu, can be split so each part carries the papers that fit it. A partner reviewing a split request can make an offer on one part and not the other, and the owner then decides whether the part on offer still makes sense alone.
Small employers are common in the county: 52.7% of its 1,219 employer establishments had fewer than five employees in 2023 (CBP), and ZIP Code Business Patterns lists 249 establishments at ZIP 82935 addresses, 55.8% of that ZIP count under five employees. The Green River, WY page breaks those county counts down by trade.
